Are there certain phrases, addresses, or numbers that you find yourself consistently typing into your iPhone? How many times per week do you enter your email into a form field, or send someone your office address including the floor number and exact cross streets?

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could type a few letters and have those entire phrases magically appear in full? It turns out there's an iPhone feature that allows it, it’s free and it's already on your phone.

1. Go under SETTINGS → GENERAL → KEYBOARD → SHORTCUTS → Hit the + in the top right corner.
2. On the top line type in your full gmail account address. On the 2nd line type in just the part that comes before the @ sign. Do this for all of your frequently used email accounts.
3. Create another shortcut where on the top line you include very specific directions to your home or office including floor, apartment number and cross streets. On the second line just type in the home number and first word of the street.

Now when you type any of these frequently used phrases that are tricky to type (think of that colleague’s email address that you’re constantly directing people to connect with), once you enter in those “Shortcut” triggers the full phrase will appear in a bubble and if you simply hit the spacebar the entire phrase will autopopulate. This can be used for commonly used URLs as well (I use “;;” as the shortcut for one commonly typed URL and “//” for another).This simply function will save you tremendous time. Trust me, invest up front in creating great shortcuts and it’ll make your iPhone experience much more enjoyable.
